Introduction to the PIC18F

The PIC18F is a family of 8-bit microcontrollers developed by Microchip Technology. The PIC18F uses a CPU core that is based on the Harvard architecture and uses a RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) instruction set. The CPU is designed by Microchip Technology.

There are many families of microcontrollers within the PIC18F family, each with slight differences. In this lecture series, we will focus on the PIC18F46K22 family of microcontrollers.

The PIC18F46K22 microcontrollers come in 40- or 44-pin ICs. The 40-pin ICs are made in PDIP (Plastic Dual In-line Package) and UQFN (Ultra Thin Quad Flat Non-Leaded) packages. The 44-pin ICs are made in TQFP (Thin Quad Flat Package) and QFN (Quad Flat No-lead) packages.
